Bucharest
- November 1995 The British Council scheduled a week of meetings with the Ministry of Health, at Medical Institutes and leading University Hospitals. The MSR team visited the Institute of Public Health and met Dr Anca Dumitrescu whose hospital hygiene team was the target group of MSR’s Transfer of Knowledge Project which covers sterile services, laundry and hospital waste disposal. The first two modules took place in 1998. Subsequently, three Ministers of Health have written endorsing & supporting MSR’s work.
London
- The Romanian and Hungarian Embassies in London have been thoroughly supportive.
- The Romanian Ambassador, Consul and Cultural Attaché have all attended MSR events.
- The Hungarian Consul has always issued Letters of Safe Conduct and been most cooperative.
- International Section of the Department of Health, London: Under an existing agreement with the Romanian MoH for visiting Romanian health professionals, the DoH has assisted the funding of three UK visits by Romanian medical people with MSR.
- The Department for International Development (DFID) is open, and welcomes input from NGOs such as MSR with grass-root experience in Romania’s health sector.
International
- World Bank: In 1998, Dr Adeyi, then responsible for the Bank’s Health Sector programme for Romania, came to Cambridge to meet with MSR’s medical advisers following MSR’s observations on the impact of World Bank activity in Salaj District. He said the World Bank welcomed input from MSR and other NGOs. In July 2001, MSR raised further concerns at a meeting with Mr Araujo, the Bank’s Director of Procurement. MSR thanks Trade Partners, London and Mrs Chips Westwood, Washington DC, for arranging this meeting.
Cambridge area
- Local Hospitals: MSR draws expertise from leading British healthcare institutions, especially Addenbrooke's NHS Trust, Hinchingbrooke and Papworth Hospitals. Cambridge hospitals account for 89 of the 152 specialists who have made 255 visits to Romania. These institutions have also facilitated the training of Romanian medical and hospital staff who visit the UK.
Zalau
- MSR deals directly with Salia District Hospital and the Department of Public Health, and the Salaj District Directorate of Health.
